Leading body and trailer manufacturer the Cartwright Group is celebrating after winning a hat-trick of prestigious awards.
The Altrincham based company established 66 years ago and is the second-largest trailer manufacturer in the UK, scooped two awards in this year’s Commercial Motor Awards.
Cartwright beat off stiff competition to be named Bodybuilder of the Year in recognition of its engineering prowess and innovative designs, including the Streetwise trailer which is designed to make deliveries to the High Street quicker and more environmentally-friendly.
Group Chairman Peter Cartwright, son of founder Stanley Cartwright, was presented with the Service to Industry Award to mark his remarkable contribution to the industry over more than 60 years.
Peter, who is still working full time in the business, started his career helping his father in the school holidays and weekends from the age of 11 and has since been involved in every chapter of the group’s success story. Today the group is heading for a record turnover of £145 million and employs more than 1,000 people.
A key driving force behind the unprecedented expansion of the company over the past four years, Peter was also instrumental in launching the group’s award-winning apprenticeship programme.
On the same night the awards were being presented at the Vox Centre in Birmingham, Cartwright lifted another accolade at a separate awards ceremony in Manchester.
At the M.E.N Business of the Year 2018 Awards judges were so impressed with Cartwright’s strong growth, expansion, diversification and wider contribution to the region that they awarded it the Barclays Judges Choice award.
Group Managing Director Mark Cartwright said: “Winning three awards in one night is a fantastic achievement for Cartwright and we are delighted that our commitment to excellence, innovation and growth has been recognised.
“It is a testament to the skills, dedication and loyalty of our workforce and I would like to thank them for their contribution.”
Peter Cartwright said: “It is an honour to receive the Service to Industry Award and a great surprise. Having grown up in the industry I have found it fascinating – it not only keeps me busy every day but I’m still learning. In fact, I regard myself as Cartwright’s oldest apprentice!
“Engineering excellence and innovation is at the heart of everything we do and always has been. I look forward to seeing Cartwright grow even further in the coming years.”
Cartwright has diversified beyond trailer production to offer rentals, fleet services, finance, conversions and most recently aircraft ground support equipment at locations across the UK.
