The Cheetah Aero System
The only aerodynamic solution
on the market for both
cab and trailer.
When it comes to tractor and trailer aerodynamics many
trailer manufacturers look at only one area, concentrating for
example on the trailer only and using factory fitted cab air
management kit.
We at Cartwright offer both the trailer and tractor
aerodynamics together as one system. Both Cab and trailer
aerodynamics system were designed together as a
package ensuring maximum aerodynamic efficiency.
What is a Cheetah Aero System?
The Cheetah aerodynamic package consists of the following air management aids:
Cab Top Spoiler:
Three-dimensional top spoiler
and extra deep side collars
designed to optimise air flow
on to the trailer.
Tapered Rear Skirt
Quarter Panels:
Direct air-flow and reduce turbulence.
Front Aerofoil:
Aerofoil aids airflow from the
cab roof fairing to the leading
front edge of the trailer roof.
Rear Roof Scoop:
channels air and reduces
turbulence.
Clean Underside:
clean chassis design features
raised airtanks and slimline
side guard droppers to allow
for cleaner air flow underneath,
improving drag resistance.
Open Rear Design:
Circular rear under run bar and
open rear chassis design
enhances under body airflow.
Large Radius Skirt:
Reduces drag by directing air-flow
along the side of the trailer.
Spray Down Mudflaps:
Increase safety for other road users by
reducing spray plume and save fuel by
reducing vehicle drag.
Cheetah History
The Cheetah concept has been in development for over 18 years. Director Steven Cartwright explains: "since 1990, Cartwright has been involved with
aerodynamic development, working on the original Department of Energy study on developing an aerodynamic system for articulated trailers".
"And since then, we have gained vast experience from conducting road going track tests, along with wind tunnel test using scale models".
Wind Tunnel Testing
All Components were wind
tunnel tested using 1/10 and
2/5 scale models at the
Mira wind tunnel facility.

Cheetah Facts
The Cheetah system has proven fuel savings beween 16% and 18% over a standard trailer and tractor with factory air kit.
The Cheetah system was developed in conjunction with TNT Express, The Department of Energy & The Transport Research Laboratory.
All Components have been wind tunnel tested using 1/10 and 2/5 scale models.
Independent 12 month trial period both trailer and tractor achieved:
16% fuel savings (Tractor Unit 11%,Trailer Kit 5%)
This equates to the following financial saving based on a fuel cost of (£1.25/litre):
Example annual tractor Mileage: 100,000 Miles
Fuel cost based on standard tractor unit/trailer combination
at 10mpg : £56,800
Fuel cost based on Cheetah tractor unit/trailer kit at 11.6 mpg : £47,712
Total Savings per annum: £9,088
Payback assuming 1 tractor to 2 trailer ratio 6 months
10 tonne carbon emission reductions based on 100,000 miles per annum
2008 MIRA Fuel Trial:
Test Objective:
To compare the steady fuel consumption
of an articulated lorry and trailer when
fitted with/without aerodynamic devices.

Cheetah Demonstrator
Diesel price increases show no sign of coming down
making fuel economy vital to the success or failure of
any transport operation. As a result, there has been
much debate about aerodynamic fuel saving trailers,
and the fuel saving claims made by a number of
manufacturers.
Contact us to arrange a free 2 week trial of the
Cheetah Demonstrator and see for yourself what
savings can be made.
